About us

Trio Wolski consists of the musicians Hanna Blomberg, Kristian Wolski and Petter Ferneman, who met and began playing together while studying at Malmö Academy of Music. They were quickly nominated in the category Best Newcomer at the Danish Music Awards Folk, recognition that helped the band to progress to playing several major folk music festivals in Sweden. In 2018, the trio was also nominated as Best Newcomer at the Swedish Folk & World Music Gala, since when they have gone on to release their debut album Late Bloomer, given concerts all over Scandinavia and won at the 2019 European Folk Music Awards in Germany.

While the members now live in different cities around Sweden, they meet to write and rehearse on a small farm at Hunnsberg in west Småland, a location that provides the rural tranquillity they were seeking as a contrast to urban life. It is here that they gather inspiration, work and create together.

Trio Wolski is a modern, innovative folk group inspired by the Nordic folk music tradition and the nature around Hunnsberg, as well as the impressions from the many meetings and experiences that enrich their lives. Through the joy of playing, they create their own deeply personal music and would like nothing more than to share it with you. The music consists of original compositions, with a mixture of improvisation and well-written arrangements. They utilize their individual qualities and work actively to create music that is both harmonic and dynamic. Although the music has its roots in the Swedish folk music tradition, it breaks free from the tradition which gives it a fresh and personal feel.

In addition to performing concerts, Trio Wolski finds it joyful to play for dancing audiences. Scandinavian folk music has always been intimately connected to traditional dancing. An audience dancing to live music is a unique and playful experience that is not often seen nowadays. Trio Wolski has a wide repertoire of Scandinavian folk dance music. They play waltz, schottis and different styles of polskas, to give a few examples. They pay certain focus on creating wide dynamics in the music and aim to do it in coherence with the dancing audience.
